Space-Center BABYLON 5

In the middle of the 23rd Century the Babylon-project came into existance as the last hope
for a galaxy without war.

A hundred years ago, humanity was still tied to its own
solar system. We had to use slow sleeper ships to get
to remote places.
Fortunately a foreign race, the Centauri discovered us.
They generously imparted their technical know-how to us,
offered us the use of their jumpgates
- portals into hyperspace -, and in exchange, they only
asked for cultural possessions: music, art, philosophy
and trinkets to sell back home.
We gained a hundred years of progress in a single year.

The Centauri Republic once was a glorious power. For a thousand years it held hundreds of planets
in its control, but slowly, as can happen, their empire began to slip between their fingers.
When they dicovered the earth, they already had gone through a phase of decline.

Influenced by the Centauri, humanity expanded rapidly. We perfected their technology and also made
contact with other alien civilizations. As to be expected, our first intergalactical war against a race
called Minbari followed. The technologically superior Minbari easily beat us back to our home
planet, they wiped out all our defenses, but in the end, close to the final victory, they halted
their advance and surrendered. Also see: the Earth-Minbari war.

The Babylon Project was conceived in the aftermath
of the war. A neutral place should be build, where the
powers could meet and work out their differences peacefully.

Babylon stations 1-3 were sabotaged and destroyed during
their construction.
Babylon 4 was completed, but after a few days it vanished
without a trace.
Finally the Earth Alliance constructed Babylon 5, financially
supported by some of the alien governments.

Babylon 4 disappeared

It's the year 2257. This is the story of the last babylonian space station. Its name is
Babylon 5.
